The Foreigner woman in Bible versus Quran (3)

This is the third article of the series: "The Foreigner woman in Bible versus Quran".

Few quotes from the first article of this series are given here.

In language, the foreigner woman or the stranger woman is the alien woman or the exotic woman or the outsider woman. However, as determined by the Bible (e.g. 1 Kings 11:1), the foreigner woman or the stranger woman is the non-Israelite woman.

Subsequently, all non-Israelite women are foreigner or stranger women.

This indicates that the women in the Bible are but one of two categories; they are either Legitimate or Foreigner.

Moreover, the Bible (Ezra 10:2) states that you break faith with God if you marry foreign women.

Ezra 10:2 (English Standard Version)…We have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land…

According to the inspired word of God (1 Kings 11:1-11), the Bible says that

King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter, Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. They were from nations about which the Lord God had told the Israelites, "You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods." Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines, and his wives led him astray.  As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, He followed the goddess of the Sidonians, and the detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord God; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.

King Solomon built a high place for the detestable god of Moab, and for the detestable god of the Ammonites. He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.

The Lord God became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord who had appeared to him twice. Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord's command. So the Lord God said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.

Herein, there are some questions:

1) How come that King Solomon had 1000 women. In an old interpretation, it is said that he used to sleep with all of them every night!

2) How come that the Prophet Wise King Solomon did evil, did not follow his Lord, built high places for other gods so that God became angry with him?

On the other hand, the Quran (Verse 38:30) says that Allah bestowed on David, Solomon, his son. What an excellent servant! That is, Solomon. Truly he was a penitent soul, always returning [to Allah] with glorification and remembrance at all times. He was ever turning in repentance (towards Allah) he is ever betaking himself to Allah and engaged in His obedience.

Herein there are two important ethical issues.

1) If the Quran is Anti-Israelite, and since King Solomon is an Israelite king, then the Quran would have exaggerated all the negative attributes of him and would say, this is the behavior of the Israelite kings! But, the truth is the truth.

2) According to the Islamic teachings (Quran and Hadith), anyone says or believes that King Solomon (or any other Prophet) did evil, did not follow his Lord, built high places for other gods etc. is categorized as disbeliever  and he or she will dwell in the Eternal Hell in the Afterlife.

For more details, you can read on the net my series of 25 articles about King Solomon in the Quran; just type on Google search: "Not in Bible But in Quran" + King Solomon + my name.

The Bible

1 Kings 11:1-11 (American Standard Version)

1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites;

2 of the nations concerning which Jehovah said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God, as was the heart of David his father.

5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

6 And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and went not fully after Jehovah, as did David his father.

7 Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, in the mount that is before Jerusalem and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.

8 And so did he for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

9 And Jehovah was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Jehovah, the God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,

10 and had commanded him concerning this thing that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which Jehovah commanded.

11 Wherefore Jehovah said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

The Quran

Verse 38:30 (Pickthal Translation):

And we bestowed on David, Solomon. How excellent a slave! Lo! He was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah).

Have you ever been curious about why the Wise Men or the Magi who came to visit Jesus upon His birth? How did they know exactly when to arrive? And how did they know where to look for the new coming King? How in the world would they find an infant in this far away nation. It would be akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. When did these wise men know when to precisely leave for this likely year long journey?

In the first place, the Bible doesn’t mention precisely mention that there were only three of them (Luke 2:1-12). There may have been more than three. They did bring at least three types of gifts, but these were customary gifts to kings in this age. Also, there most certainly could have been more than three offerings. And the question of why would they bring gifts has been asked? It was certainly customary to have dignitaries from several nations be present for a coronation of a new king (Glory to the newborn King). And no one would approach a king without a gift or without bringing an offering.

Incidentally, these gifts would come in handy later to fund a trip to Egypt that Joseph and Mary would have to take to avoid King Herod’s killing of all males age two and under; this would have included the baby Jesus. This murder of male babies and infants was designed to prevent any other king from arising and taking Herod’s place. That’s not precisely why the Magi had brought gifts, but this does explain why these foreign dignitaries, upon seeing Him, fell down and then began to worship the infant Jesus (Mt. 2:11). The wise men were originally a class of priests so their worshiping Him was totally appropriate. And the precise number of nations that were represented is not revealed in the Bible, so there may have been more than three that were represented and more than three wise men or governmental representatives. Common sense would seem to indicate that there were probably more gifts and more wise men than only three. And this was likely no small excursion. The size of the caravan must have been exceedingly large. These must have had accompanying guards for protecting the wise men as well as all the valuable gifts, plus there must have been food, servants and supplies.

Now comes the exceedingly difficult questions of the who, what, when, where, why and how of finding the soon coming infant King? How did these wise men from the entire known world at the time, know Who to look for, what to look for, when to find Him, and where to find the soon-to-be-born King and Messiah? They apparently already knew the why of finding Him from Daniel‘s written messages recorded for posterity in Babylonia. When Daniel and Israel where being held captive by Babylonia, they imported their religion and history, including their knowledge of God with them. These conquests also included gathering up all wise men of the Medes, Persian, and all nations under his rule for the kings private council and the nations under Babylon‘s domination represented all the known peoples, nations and languages that were known at this time (Dan 6:3, 6:25). Daniel was apparently in this council and not only that, he was the head over it all (Dan. 5:29, 6:1-3). Since Daniel had previously proven to Nebuchadnezzar, and most recently, King Darius, that God does exist and knows not only the whispers in a king’s chamber, but his dreams too, he had placed Daniel as the highest authority (next to the king) in Babylonia. This included the position of Governor, placing Daniel over all authorities in the greatest kingdom of that present world. And subsequently, this included reigning over all wise men (Dan. 2:12, 48).

Ironically, Daniel’s title was actually rab mag or “chief of the Magi” (Dan. 5:11). But after thousands of years had passed since Daniels pronouncement of a soon coming king, how did they know exactly when and where to arrive? And how was Daniel able to predict the exact date of the Messiah’s arrival (Dan. 2:12-48, 9:24-26)? Daniel was a man of prayer and Gabriel answered his prayer and told Daniel not only when He would come, but when He would be crucified (Dan. 9). The location must have obviously been common knowledge to these Wise Men, otherwise they could only have guessed at it. And only guessing about the when and where of the Messiah’s birth would have been sheer, blind luck for them to ever find Him. If it was too early, they would have missed Him and if they were too late, baby Jesus and His parents would have already fled to Egypt (Matt. 2:13).

The book of Daniel makes it obvious that he foreknew when the coming Savior would be born and He must have known where but this was also reveal to other prophets as well and so was still common knowledge even in the minor prophet‘s day (Micah 5:2). Since Daniel was the leading Magi of the nation he was being held captive in, it makes sense that this was taught to the nation and was incorporated into their religious prophecies. Eastern religions had long used astrology to try and predict certain events and this star was obvious to them the sign they had almost certainly looked for. Ancient eastern customs and prophecies had long predicted a world ruling king to be born in this same time. This was a residue of Daniels teachings that were recorded for posterity and remained to the day of Christ’s birth.

During this time in history (5 AD-0) nations were expecting a great king coming out of the Jews. These nations may have been influenced by Daniel and his writings, since he knew when and where the Christ would be born (Micah 5:2). The Persian’s and the Hebrews had similar beliefs, more than any other nation at that time. They also believed in one God, did not worship idols and saw light as a symbol of God.

How perfectly fitting that Bethlehem would be the birthplace of the Savior since the name means “house of bread”. He is known as the Bread of Life and that He was in a manger which is a feeding trough that usually had grain. This fits with Jesus saying “I am the Bread of Life”. But where exactly would they find Baby Jesus and how? They had been following the star, but this only pointed them in the right direction, toward Judea. But how could they know exactly where to find Him in a fairly large country or city? The Old Testament prophet Micah knew the Savior would be born in Bethlehem. Daniel must have known this and passed this on to others in Babylonia. He had already recorded the number of days until this prophecy was to be fulfilled (to the minute!).

And “…when they saw the star, they rejoiced, with exceeding great joy (Matt. 2:10)” knowing this must be the place. But it was only when the star came directly over [literally, “stood over” like someone or something stood over] the child did they knew for certain where the infant would be. This explains the “exceeding great joy”, since they had finally found Him. After perhaps a year or more, and having traveled thousands of miles, with no map, no guide, only a star to guide then, they now beheld the star. This star had shown them precisely where the new King was. Herod the king and all the so-called religious experts; the Chief Priests and Scribes could, could not even find Him, lest Herod would have had him killed (Matt. 2:3). But foreigners, from another continent away, knew exactly when, where, and how to find Him. They followed the star and apparently knew when this epic event would happen.

The Christmas tree often has a star on it. The Star of David, Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, is described as a star…He is the Bright and Shinning Star, and also called the Bright and Morning Star and even a Saving Star (Ish. 60:1-4, Rev. 22:16, Num. 24:17). The Great "I Am" is He! Every child who has ever worried about Santa finding their home is dwarfed by the question of how the Wise Men found Baby Jesus. Daniel, inspired by the Holy Spirit, must have been responsible. If we are wise, then we too will find Jesus. We know where to find Him. And Jesus stays with us every day of the year...so Merry Christmas to family and all, and to all, a God blessed night.

Why put the question of do pets go to heaven in an article? Think about the fact that for some people, pets are considered family. For many people, families, the elderly and others, who are often times alone or their children have gone or they may have never even had children, their pets are exactly the same as a valued and cherished member of the family. In fact they may even treat them better than one of their own. And the treat them as their own child. They baby them, cuddle, rub, feed, and care for their beloved pet as one of their very own, much like a parent loves and esteems their own child. So to these people, this is an important question and since God takes notice when even a sparrow falls to the ground, I have chose to address it. Losing a pet, after years of endearment, affection and companionship, can be an extremely difficult grieving period.

If the answer is in the Bible, I could not find it. Scripture seems to be silent on this subject. It does not exclusively tell us whether our beloved pets will make it to heaven or whether they are gone forever. The Bible does describe an age when the wolf and lamb will lye together in the presence of a little child (Is. 11:6-8). These verses show that animals will be existing in the Kingdom after the return of Christ. Based upon scripture, we know that animals will inhabit the new heaven and the new earth. But what about your pets? Could you also join them in heaven some day?

The Garden of Eden was populated by animals, thus there is a precedent for believing that Eden restored will also be populated by animals. Both man and animals have spirits (Ecles. 3:21). Man’s spirit will live on for eternity in one place or another. Man has no advantage over animals in regards to death and having a spirit (Ecls. 3:19 ). They both die. While spirit is eternal, there is no mention about animals having an eternal spirit. But they certainly have a spirit, but the Bible does not say that they will live on forever (Ecles. 3:21).

Throughout the history of the Christian church, the classic understanding by many was that “living things”, animals included, have souls. Even Christian writers and thinkers believed this. Even though we cannot say with certainty that the pets we have lost or enjoy today will be resurrected in eternity, I am not willing to preclude the possibility. And neither are some of the keenest thinkers in the world, from C.S. Lewis to Peter Kreeft. These men and others are not only convinced that animals in general, but that pets in particular, will be restored in the resurrection that they stated so in their writings.

Dr. Kreeft, for example, is convinced that animals will exist throughout eternity. “Are there animals in Heaven? The simplest answer is: Why not? How irrational is the prejudice that would allow plants (green fields and flowers), but not animals into Heaven.” Regarding pets, he writes: “Would the same animals be in Heaven as on earth? ‘Is my dead cat in Heaven?’ Again, why not? God can raise up the very stones to worship Himself! Though the blessed have better things to do than to play with pets, the greater does not exclude the lesser.” God did make certain that animals survived the flood.

Isaiah 11:6-9 provides a particularly stirring image. The wolf and the lamb will lie down or dwell [live] together, suggests to the reader a specific wolf and lamb. Using the wolf and the lamb seems to indicate one in particular. Using a wolf or a lamb could mean any wolf or lamb as in the case of...“a little child will lead them” (Isaiah 11:6). By the way, it doesn’t say the child, but a child, indicating that any of the children then living could lead them. Therefore, animals must still exist after Christ’s return in order for this prophecy to be fulfilled. However, we can not fit this into the context that our pets will be in heaven, since that is not the real purpose or meaning of this portion of scripture. That would be a stretch indeed, since if we take text out of context, we can make it a (false) pretext.

There is one thing we can say with certainty. Scripture does provides us with a sufficient precedent for suggesting that animals will continue to exist after the return of our Lord. He will in fact be riding a white horse at His return. And what is to prohibit God from resurrecting our beloved, family-member pets? The real question is are we saved? Seeing our pets in heaven is only great if we ourselves have received Christ and been born again. That is my desire for you and something you can achieve. [see Chapter Eight] But specifically, the Bible is not clear about if pets go to heaven or not. But neither does it completely exclude the possibility.

Why does God allow suffering that He is fully capable to stopping? This question has not only challenged Christians, but anyone. To witness histories or current atrocities and worldwide suffering on such catastrophic levels, can be a major stumbling block even for believers in Christ, not to mention atheists or agnostics. If God is "supposed to be an all-powerful and all-loving God, then why doesn't He stop it? Is He powerless, is He tired, is He even there...or maybe He's asleep."

Being a Christian is no insurance against cancer, disease, disability, and an unexpected death. In fact, Jesus clearly stated that we will suffer. I have searched many theologians, pastors, and books, and have finally discovered this: God's ways are past our finding out and beyond human comprehension. No human can ever wrap their mind around What and Who God is. that is precisely what makes Him God. There is infinity in Him. We are simply finite. The answers to our questions may not be answered until Christ returns for us, or in the way we expect, or what seems best to us.

It is inferred that God knew we would encounter great trials and tribulations in this life, since He knows the future and is Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent. He must have known that the fall of man would produce a fallen world. But what if life were perfect, with no problems at all for anybody? Human nature being what it is may think "who need's God?". Everyone everywhere would have had all of their needs met. No one would be in need of anything. Trials can sometimes drive people to their knees and to the acknowledgement of their need for God. There are storms of correction and there are storms of perfection. Either way, God hears your cries, knows your sorrows (Ex. 3:7) and listens to your groans (Ex. 6:5).

Jesus was called a Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief in every way (Ish. 53.3). Jesus certainly groaned, He wept, and He was sorrowful when He saw suffering. Even the earth groans and travails earnestly in a state of decay while awaiting it's own redemption, which will come with the manifestation (or appearance) of the sons of God [that would be us] (Rom. 8:22-23).In several continents, like India, Africa, and others, where multiple thousands of innocent children have died, why didn't God intervene? God could intervene first and prevent it but He chooses not too.

Man was the one who decided that he would make his own choices in the Garden of Eden and even today in most of the world's society. But for the sake of argument, let's say God did prevent it. Great, but then, over in Asia, there is a Communist regime that choose guns over grain. Should He not address this next? Then there are those rich people, then those people, ......just fill in the blanks. Knowing human nature as it is, there will always be one more issue that needs to be resolved and as a result, freedom of choice or free-will would be lost. If we are given no choice, humans will rebel as evidenced by Democracy sweeping over parts of the world. If we have no free-will, we would simply be robots programmed to obey. Like Plavlov's Dogs, conditionally trained to respond when the bell rang for food.It is a human tendency to want to be free, free to make decisions and to be free, moral agents. But it comes at an enormous cost...consequences.

There is both good and evil in the world. People will make both good and bad decisions. Human history has shown where freedom of choice is missing, rebellion is likely. Maybe not at first....those people over there needed to be punished. But if the correction starts hitting closer to home, then we take it as a personal affront to our right of freedom. You can not have it both ways. Interfere where others are concerned, but don't mess with my personal freedom to make choices. I am a father and grandfather, and now that most of my children have grown and gone (save one), I can no longer influence or correct them. They are now legal adults.

When a child is in infancy, a parent is akin to being their like a god (what I mean is that they are fully dependent upon them for even their life). Babies depend on them for survival, clothing, shelter, food...life. Without parental care, the child would die. My wife and I made most of the choices for our young children, but as they got older, they had more personal freedoms. Having complete and total control would stifle their decision making and damage their self-esteem in the late teen years. And by allowing their adult children to make their own decisions, and yes, make mistakes too, they will feel free to seek godly counsel from their parents who will not give them a lecture or "I told you so". That old "safe zone" will feel warm and comfortable, not like feeling "brow beaten" with advice crammed down their throat. The result of that might be being ex-communicated from them.

In my counseling of families as a Case Manager for the SRS, I discovered that there are really 3 types of parents. The drill sergeant, "my way or the highway", the search and rescue pilot, "quick, grab the rope, I'm here to save you since you can not", and the consultant, "Wow, you really are having a problem, good luck with it, let me know what I can do for you...I have been in a similar position before". I prefer the consultant approach, giving limited choices, and allowing them to make some decisions for themselves. Yes, I saw them make a lot of mistakes and they're still making them, but I have realized that I must resist the urge to interfere or intervene. If I interfere, I thwart their growth or worse, have them cut off their relationship with me. If it is their idea to ask for help, they are more likely to respond to that advice. God is in that position over mankind and mankind responds like children sometimes do and make a wrong choice, but God will not force us into Heaven against our will.

Throughout most of human history, families have leaned toward large families due to the high mortality rate. For example, many families in the 18th and 19th centuries knew in advance that some of their children would be stillborn, die in infancy or from childhood diseases, but they had them anyway. I too knew in advance that when my wife and I considered having children that they would come into a world with pain, suffering, shortages in food, water, fuel, etc, not at all close to perfect. We had them anyway. They were worth the risk. And what joy we have now. But no one has suffered like the Messiah. The most unjust, unusually cruel, humiliating, brutal and torturous death of Jesus Christ was the most unfair thing of all. He didn't do anything worthy of death. He was (and is) perfect. Those stripes should have been ours. Why did God allow such terrible suffering to His Son? To pay a penalty that we could never pay for ourselves...that of atoning for our sins and enabling us to have a relationship with God that sin had heretofore made impossible. He is far too Holy for a sinner to approach Him.

According to the majority of ancient Historians, no human ever suffered to the extent that Jesus Christ did. His death was the greatest travesty of justice that has ever or ever will occur in history. Because God so loved us, He even sacrificed His One and Only Son, so that we could have relationship with Him, forever (John 3:16-18). That was not fair to Jesus, or to us since we deserved eternal punishment, but that is exactly why the Father allowed His Son to suffer and die. Just how excruciating was His death? Read Isaiah 52: 10-15 and 53: 1-12.

By the way, mankind is not off the hook; we should ask ourselves why we allowing suffering? Man has the capacity and means to alleviate much of it. For instance, there is sufficient wealth in the world to almost wipe out hunger. We can we fly to moon but many are homeless, we can split an atom but we can't part with our money, we can cure cancer but not poverty. It is interesting to note that there is sufficient global wealth, that if it were properly distributed, every family would make about 42 thousand dollars a year (Worldwide GNP 2006)!

Another thing to consider is that trials purify our faith (I Pet. 1:7), sorrow keeps us in a humble attitude (II Cor. 7:10), allow us to fellowship with Jesus (Philp. 3:10), be partakers of His sufferings (I Pet. 4:13), and partakers of His reign (II Tim. 2:12). So our suffering is nothing compared to what Jesus endured, but it is to be revealed in us in glory and honor at His appearance (I Pet. 1:7, Rom 8:18). "Our light affliction is but for a moment, works (this is a verb, an action) in us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory (II Cor. 4:17). And compared with the glory we'll encounter in Heaven, we'll look back on our problems and think, why did I worry so much (Rom 8:18)? In II Corinthians, 1:3-7, God answers (through Paul) at least in part, as to why He allows suffering, even with Christians.

The Good News Bible explains part of that purpose, "Let us give thanks to ....the God from whom all help comes! He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles (here is one reason), using the same kind of help that we ourselves have received from God. Just as we have a share in Christ's many sufferings (yet another purpose), so also through Christ we share in God's great help. If we suffer, it is for your help and salvation; if we are helped, then you too are helped and given the strength to endure with patience (another reason) the same sufferings that we also endure. So our hope in you is never shaken; we know that just as you share in our sufferings, you also share in the help we receive (another reason, this one helps the church). Even Jesus momentarily felt forsaken saying "My God, My God, why have You abandon me?(Good News Mark 15:34)".

Jeremiah, the so called "the weeping prophet", was one of several prophets and thousands of saints who wanted to just give up and die. They couldn't take it anymore, but they and you are sharing in the sufferings of Jesus, church members, Ezekiel, and a host of others. Suffering and misery love company, and if you have suffered or currently are suffering (and what Christian hasn't), you are in most excellent company. And it creates an utter dependence upon God, which is what He wants us to do.It is not written anywhere that life is fair, including the Bible. Christians seem to get what the un-saved deserve and the sinner receives what the saints seem due (Eccl. 8:14).

Regardless of which injustices and unfairness occurs, it's beyond our ability to understand why some suffer un-rightly while others who do wicked prosper. Even though this question has been examined over hundreds of years, mankind just can't comprehend what God is doing behind the scenes (Eccl. 8:17). Even if an old, wise and experienced theologian claims to know full well the reasons why people suffer, don't believe it (Eccl. 3:17). We can't even explain al l of our miseries or even know the exact day that we'll die (Eccl. 8:6-8). However, the children of God can depend on and have faith in His promise that no harm will come to us (Eccl. 8:5).

I will not claim that this article explains it all...I would be lying if I did. For the children of God, this will all make perfect sense someday, but today it remains hidden. Even so, we can rest assured that the reason will be made clear and that all things will work out for our best (Rom. 8:28). I have ask myself this question, since I suffer physical ailments (fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, severe allergy and migrane headaches, etc.) even though I've been born again and I attend church regularly, faithfully tithe, help the poor, etc., But those are just a pile of filthy rags (works). My own works can never guarantee that I won't suffer.

There is something bigger going on here that I can not yet see. I must simply be still and know that He is God, He is in charge and He has a plan that is exactly the best for me (Psl. 46.10). When I was young and got sick, I remember taking caster oil and it going down very hard. Yuck, it was terrible...and I had no clue about how this was supposed to help, but help it did. As hard as things are to swallow sometimes, I only later realized that it was the best thing for me. I must learn to think of that Great Day, when this old tent (tabernacle) will be thrown off for an eternal body...my mortality will be swallowed up by the Spirit's quickening and immortality (II Cor 5:2).

Enduring is made more bearable when you know that you suffer with Jesus or another Christian friend...someone who knows what you are going through and understands. This helps you cope with it better. And God certainly gives us the strength and courage we need to go through things, since He declares He will be an ever-present help when we are in trouble (Pslm. 46:1). It is not all your responsibility...It is your response to His ability.?

Every good father corrects his children because he loves them and wants what is best for them. God the Father corrects and chastises every child He loves. Don't take it too personal because trials may be storms of correction or storms of perfection, as the late Adrian Rogers put it so well. As for me, I've got much dross to burn off, but He is in the refining business anyway. For born-again Christians, suffering is actually a good thing and a God-thing. He is not causing it, but allowing it. This is a fallen world. But the Father desires to have relationship with you and to give you the ability to carry on. In fact, God so passionately desires to give you eternal life, that He allowed His Son to endure the greatest suffering that any human has ever experienced. That was the most unfair thing that has ever happened! Jesus horrible death paid our debt so that we could have joy in the fellowship with the Most High forever. If you are not already born again, you can become a child of God right now & any present day suffering can be turned into eternal joy someday.

HOW TO RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE

I Admit - that I am a sinner and in need of a Savior,

I Abandon - self-effort & realize I can not be saved by my works or efforts,

I Accept freely Christ's payment for my sins, required of the Father,

I Acknowledge Jesus Christ as my personal lord and Savior.
